Alex Guthrie's Dream
He is just the smallest guy
He sleeps curled in a chair.
His mom and I take hours
Just to watch him sleeping there.
Sometimes he laughs, sometimes he yells,
Sometimes he'll kick and scream.
We used to fret but now know
It's just Alex Guthrie's Dream.
He'll gnash his teeth, he rolls around,
He walks right into walls.
He can't sleep with us because
He kicks me in the knee.
When he's awake, for goodness sake
He's fine, or so it seems.
He says he has no memory of
Alex Guthrie's Dream.
But something's rolling round up there,
No quarter does he give.
He's quick and smart and brave of heart
And imaginative.
He must work things out alright
He got that healthy gleam.
So we'll just watch and sit back and let
Alex Guthrie Dream.
